WaveSense uses ground penetrating radar developed for military use at MIT Lincoln Laboratory to create a map of those subsurface signatures from which self-driving cars can navigate. As a Mechanical Engineer, you will focus on developing UWB ground penetrating radar systems for autonomous vehicle lanekeeping as well as mapping vehicles. You’ll modify and adapt existing designs to improve performance and meet regulations through material selection, simulation, analysis, and testing. Additionally, you’ll design and build high definition mapping vehicles and support partner pilot programs.



  • Further develop, design, and refine the WaveSense GPR.
  • You’re comfortable thinking about the big picture and the small details. You enjoy making design and architecture decisions.

  • Rapidly prototype to test and discard hypotheses.

  • Enjoy working with small, high output teams in a fast paced startup environment.

  • A “get-it-done” person. You know that done is better than perfect and are energized by constantly delivering and moving things forward.



  • Experience designing mechanical systems, material selection, packaging, and testing.
  • You’ve done thermal, vibration, environmental, and robustness testing.

  • You’ve designed and developed electromechanical systems

  • Strong working knowledge of mechanical CAD systems and simulations.

  • 3 years or more experience in antenna design or related field.

  • Fluent in Solidworks and Ansys or similar simulation tools, Matlab.



  • PhD or Masters in mechanical or civil engineering related field or equivalent experience and knowledge.
  • Experience with Ground Penetrating Radar.
